The Château de Pommard is three centuries old, founded by Vivant Micault, and has been owned by five families with a rich history; surviving the French Revolution and two World Wars. The estate is only three kilometers from Beaune, the wine capital of Burgundy, close to the center of the Côte d’Or. The estate is where architecture and winemaking meet in the midst of the vines.Their domain is biodynamically farmed with plans to be entirely biodynamic by the 2019 vintage. The decision to farm their grapes biodynamically after the 18th century estate was purchased by Silicon Valley entrepreneur Michael Baum and is part of a rising trend in the Burgundy wine region. Guests on the luxury yacht Grand Victoria have the pleasure of experiencing the wines born of hard work and dedication to excellence on an exclusive barge trip in France.
The clos, a walled vineyard, of Château de Pommard ensures the possibility of biodynamic farming. Walled vineyards protect the grapes improving the mesoclimate and were often the vineyards of Cistercian monasteries. The word, clos, is often used in the name of famous wines even when the wall no longer exists.
The acquisition of Château de Pommard has established a fresh existence to this majestic estate with plans to strengthen the wine tourism while improving the quality of the wines produced by this estate. 2.5 hectares of vines on the lieux-dits Simone and Chanterie were isolated by the Pommard team for testing and the conclusion was decisive. Guests are offered the opportunity to purchase fine French wine at the Château to ship home.
